Good morning, everyone, and welcome to October. (!)
Recently, a reviewer said this, “She often puts her main characters in peril With a Capital P.”
Haaa. You betcha. ????????
Personally, I love stories like this, where you have an underdog, who stands up for what’s right. If you like that kind of story as well, then The Saints of Swallow Hill will be a book you want to read!

Back when manual work was more prevalent, it’s hard to believe anyone could have a sleepless night, particularly if you were in a labor camp. It’s true that no matter how tired a person is, if they are worried about something, a severe case of fatigue won’t necessarily make for a restful night.
Del Reese certainly has plenty to worry about at Swallow Hill. From the constant friction between him, and Crow, to the worry over his workers, to his own personal problems, then add in the fact another worker is near death, and a sleepless night is understandable.
