First Sentence Fridays and FREE BOOK Friday!

Friday!!! Welcome back!

You haven’t “formally” met Otis Riddle – and what an intro he gets with this first sentence! ????

Cornelia is married to Otis, and together, they run the Swallow Hill turpentine camp’s commissary. It doesn’t take long once he’s introduced into the story for you to realize he is not the most likeable character. Otis has a secret only Cornelia knows. Because he’s always worried she might tell someone this secret, he has his little ways of “controlling” her, as in bullying her.

When Cornelia and Rae Lynn become friends, he’s particularly wary and uptight, and this turns him into an even more despicable character.

Chapter 28

Rae Lynn

Meanwhile, Otis was preoccupied in the outhouse, declaring without any sense of decorum that what had happened had upset his bowels, shouting at Rae Lynn that when he came out, by God she better be gone.
