Welcome back to Friday! And a first sentence . . . ???? Chapter 31!
***************************************************
The title of Thomas Wolfe’s novel, “You Can’t Go Home Again,” published posthumously in 1940, turned into a saying over time, “you can never go home again.”
There has been a lot of discussion around what this meant. Most of us have come away with the knowledge that home, as we knew it as a child, will never exist again. When we think back on “home,” our memories remain fixed in time, with only our specific individual remembrances and understanding of what home was to us.
I recently experienced this with my brother, who had a completely different memory than I did of an event that happened when we were children. Thomas Wolfe clearly knew what he was talking about.
It still doesn’t stop us from wanting to return.
