Welcome again to First Sentence Friday! And welcome to the end of the week! I’ve seen this used often on Instagram – FriYAY! I love that.
A quick ***FYI – this little snippet of my post last week was in the section toward the bottom where there are links to add THE MOONSHINER’S DAUGHTER to your Goodreads “to read” shelf, and for following me, so, you may have missed it:
***There’s another GIVEAWAY on GOODREADS and a chance at winning one of 50 copies! Good luck!***
The giveaway runs through November 7th, so, you still have plenty of time, but I wanted to be sure everyone saw it.
Now, let’s move right along to the First Sentence for this week!
Coming December 31, 2019 from Kensington Publishing, Inc.

When I started writing this story, and began developing the character relationships Jessie would have, I quickly understood she needed an advocate, someone who would look out for her, someone she could confide in and trust. I needed a character who would recognize Jessie’s pain, and what she was going through. Obviously, there was no mother figure, and her best friend, Aubrey, wouldn’t have the maturity to realize Jessie needed help. Merritt had his own opinions of his sister, and their father, well, to say he was disappointed in her is an understatement. Mrs. Brewer fit the need. Although she uses her knowledge of herbal treatments, she’s also a registered nurse, and offers Jessie a blend of pragmatism and empathy.
It’s Mrs. Brewer Jessie and Merritt turn to when all hell starts to break loose, but at the same time, they’re fiercely independent because of the way they’ve been raised.
Chapter 25
A couple days passed and I decided it was time to leave Mrs. Brewer’s house.
